Maryland Sportsbooks – Launching a Legal Sportsbook

With the recent passing of Maryland’s sports betting bill HB 940, legal sports betting will soon be available in the state. The law authorizes the operation of sportsbooks by online and mobile platforms, and sets the maximum tax rate at 12.5% of gross sports wagering revenue. Currently, there are more than a dozen brick-and-mortar and online sportsbooks in the state. However, the majority of the operators haven’t been ready to go live, but the process is continuing to progress.

For now, the sportsbook market in Maryland is fairly stable. Most of the sites offer unique promotions and bonuses, and expect great opening week numbers.

There are also two sportsbooks operating in Illinois. DraftKings and FanDuel will take their first bets in the state in August 2020. They’re already available at Par-A-Dice Casino and Hawthorne Race Course.

Another option in the market is BetMGM’s official sportsbook app, which is live in a number of states. In addition to its top features, the app offers live betting odds, a parlay builder and more. A new mobile site will be introduced in the coming weeks, and sports fans will be able to register and place bets on the go.

NASCAR also has an official sportsbook product, and has built a unique data-powered solution to provide fans across regulated states a highly engaging live experience. Specifically, the official solution allows sportsbooks to accept bets on every lap of every race.

As the sportsbook market in Maryland continues to develop, there are a number of questions surrounding how to get into the market and how it will work. Some experts believe that a market launch is imminent, while others argue that the industry is still developing.
