Official Poker

Official poker is a set of rules that are used by cardrooms to govern the play of poker games. The rules are written by Robert Ciaffone, a leading authority on cardroom rules, and are widely used in the world of poker.

Seating

The initial seating of a player is determined by WFP Management, usually using a computerized system that matches each player’s name with the appropriate seat. Once a player is seated, they must remain in their seat until the game is completed.

Chips

Players have an obligation to protect their chips and those of other players at all times, whether in a hand or not. Any violation of these rules will result in verbal warning, suspension from play for a specified time, or disqualification from the tournament.

Table stakes

Table stakes are the minimum amount of money that a player can wager in any given hand. These are usually fixed amounts, but can be changed before a hand begins, depending on the game being played.

Betting rounds

Each betting round is a series of exchanges between all players in the table. Each player may call, raise, or check. A betting interval ends when each player puts in as many chips as his or her predecessor, or when he or she drops.

Ranking of hands

The cards dealt to each player in a Poker deal determine their rank, which is based on mathematics. The higher the rank, the better a player’s chance of winning the pot.
