Pennsylvania Is the First State to Legalize Sports Betting

Among the six states that have launched online sports betting, Pennsylvania was the earliest to roll out the online gambling carpet. The state has a sports betting app with a pretty impressive array of games.

There are no land-based sportsbooks available to bet at. However, the state has two sportsbook-sized stadiums, the Capital One Arena and the Footprint Center.

One of the stipulations for the legalization of sports betting was a $10 million license fee. There are currently twelve licensed online sportsbooks operating in Pennsylvania. Interestingly, the legal online sportsbook is not allowed to take cryptocurrencies. Instead, it only accepts credit cards. In the short term, the state expects at least five apps to be up and running.

The state of Nevada, on the other hand, requires in-person registration at a land-based casino. The state has the dubious honor of the first state to allow online gambling, although the state is not yet offering mobile sports betting. The state’s biggest taxpayer is the casino industry.

There are several ways to gamble in Maryland. In the future, sports betting will be offered in a state-run online sportsbook. There are also several casinos and race tracks in Maryland. However, the state has been largely gambling-hostile in the past. In fact, it is only in the past two years that the state has legalized online gambling. Considering that, it is a surprise that there are not more legal online sportsbooks in the state.
